Karndean Designflooring was founded in the United Kingdom by Mike Walker, who started his career in the flooring industry as an apprentice in 1963. In 1973, he established Karndean Designflooring with the aim of creating high-quality flooring products that could replicate the look and feel of natural materials, such as wood and stone, without the associated maintenance issues.

Over the years, Karndean has grown into a global brand, with a presence in more than 80 countries. In 1999, the company opened its first office in the United States, and it now has offices in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Europe.
